Steamboat’s Western heritage is intertwined with its colorful art scene. At the epicenter is the Depot Art Center that houses Steamboat Creates. The Depot dates back to 1909 when it welcomed the first passenger train to reach the town. Abandoned in 1968 when the train service was discontinued, it was designated a National Register of Historic Places and rehabilitated, and today hosts exhibits and classes.
As part of its thriving art community, you’ll find galleries, museums, and murals! There are 18 murals around the town of Steamboat, each uniquely designed and painted by artists from around the world and inspired by the area’s natural landscape and wildlife.

Steamboat’s ranching history and Western heritage is celebrated in art that you’ll find on display in galleries around town. While you’re downtown picking up some cowboy boots or a hat at F.M. Light & Sons, allow time to linger in some of our favorite galleries.
