Feel the thrill of cruising down from your vacation rental to the farmer’s market or along Colorado’s scenic bike trails. But when it’s time to head back uphill and the altitude starts to take its toll, there’s no need to worry—you’re on an e-bike!
E-bikes have revolutionized mountain adventures, offering the perfect blend of traditional cycling and an electric boost. This makes biking accessible to all ages and fitness levels, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the ride and tackle those climbs with ease. Experience the freedom and fun of e-biking on your next vacation!
With this popularity comes availability for e-bike rentals in all of our Colorado mountain towns: Breckenridge, Beaver Creek, Vail and Steamboat Springs.
An e-bike, short for electric bicycle, is a bicycle equipped with an electric motor to help with pedaling. The motor can be activated by the rider’s pedal action, a throttle, or a combination of both.
The motor kicks in and you can crush any climb.
Because of the added assist, you can ride and explore farther.
Even if you’re not at the top of your game, you can still enjoy an e-bike, and keep up with others in your group who may be on a traditional bike.
You may be fit, but the altitude can still affect you and an e-bike can make a ride that much more enjoyable, especially on those inclines.
Park the car at home! It's much more enjoyable to be cruising through town on an e-bike on the numerous paved bike paths in Colorado's mountain resorts than battling traffic and searching for parking spaces. Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Steamboat and Vail are all easily bikeable towns.
You ride them like a normal bike. The battery makes them heavier though and it will be relatively difficult to pedal an e-bike on flat ground without any assistance at all.
Throttle-controlled e-bikes: Going uphill, you don’t even have to pedal – just cruise. These e-bikes operate much like a motorcycle or scooter. Just know it will drain the battery faster. But if you need to give your legs a break, it’s great.
Pedal-assist e-bikes: If the e-bike is pedal assist only, you will need to keep pedaling, but the motor gives you a boost.
- Rules vary by town so be sure to check out the local regulations. The trails will have signs posted regarding e-bike usage. Most natural surface trails and National Forest Service Land are off-limits to e-bikes. But the many miles of paved bike paths in and around the mountain towns allow e-bikes. Check these websites for specific restrictions in Steamboat, Breckenridge, Vail and Beaver Creek.
- Be mindful of the speed limits.
- Be sure to carry plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a rain jacket in case you get caught in a rain shower.
- And always wear a helmet!!
