 One of the best ways to experience the beauty of the surrounding areas around Steamboat Springs is on horseback. There are rides to suit every schedule whether you want a ride that lasts an hour or goes all day. Steamboat is known for its western heritage which is apparent as manyof the ranches offering horseback riding are family owned and operated and have been for several generations.You can experience horseback riding right in town at the stables near the rodeo grounds. However, we recommend a ride that will take you through the Routt National forest on elk and deer trails that wind through aspen groves and mountain meadows. You may even see local wildlife.  Other rides will take you over hills and through valleys on privately owned ranches where you can experience riding like our ranchers. You can even participate in a real cattle drive.Many choose to enjoy an afternoon of horseback riding followed by a wagon ride dinner and barbeque to involve the entire family in a true western experience.
