Last weekend we were outside playing - biking and raking leaves in the back yard. It was almost 70 degrees and we wore shorts and t-shirts. It was as if summer was giving us one last dance and was determined that we should remember her with a smile.
In less than a day, following the first official snow event of the winter to come, we are living in a new world.
Under 7 inches of fresh snow Steamboat looks clean, fresh and Christmas card-like. It’s a quick reminder that winter in the mountains brings an absence of green and an abundance of white and a new set of ground rules.
There’s much to get done before winter sets in.
“It’s time to get that appointment to get snow tires put on…”
“Now where is that snow shovel I last saw in May?…”
“Snow boots, gloves, hat……skis…where are you?”
With white stuff falling from the skies our phones lit up this week. Taking a ski trip, even planning a ski trip, brings out a range of emotions from people. You could tell that from the excitement in the voices of guests that want to ski Steamboat and stay with us this winter. They want to play in the snow, to slide down a mountain, to see new places and what’s not to make you smile when thinking about that?
Sliding down a snow capped mountain peak in Colorado is living life in the big outdoors. Sharing an adventure and good times with friends and family in new surroundings expands our horizons. We can’t wait to share it all with you again.
It’s such a good reminder of how lucky we are to live here.
