It’s becoming a week of snowmania after the latest weather systems that have just layered the Steamboat ski mountain in snow since Saturday.

Current totals include a 28 inches on Monday morning that sets a 24 hour record for the Steamboat Ski area, another 12″ so far today totaling 40″ in 48 hours.  This, and the prospect of significant additional accumulation forecast for the rest of this week has everyone buzzing.

Once again Steamboat has the best ski conditions in Colorado.

Other records set at the ski area this week include:

1. Most number of smiles in a lift line: 452
2. Longest period of time out of sight of snowboard while riding on the mountain: 12′ 48s
3. Largest amount of snow inhaled while trying to ski or snowboard: 48.5oz
4. Highest amount of Go-Pro footage recorded in a single day: 578 hrs

* TIMING… PERIODS OF SNOW WILL OCCUR TODAY THOUGH SOME BREAKS IN SNOWFALL MAY OCCUR FROM TIME TO TIME BEFORE HEAVIER SNOW PICKS UP AGAIN THIS EVENING

* SNOW ACCUMULATION… 12 TO 18 INCHES TOTAL OF NEW SNOW

* WINDS… OVER THE MOUNTAINS… .WESTERLY WINDS 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 35 MPH TODAY WILL BECOME NORTHWEST TONIGHT WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH OVER HIGHER RIDGETOPS. WINDS IN THE VALLEYS WILL BE FROM THE WEST AT 10 TO 15 MPH.

* VISIBILITY… LESS THAN 1 MILE OCCASIONALLY LESS THAN 1/4 MILE IN HEAVIER SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.

* IMPACTS… SNOW AND ICE COVERED ROADS WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT THROUGH THE PERIOD. BLOWING SNOW WILL ALSO DROP VISIBILITIES MAKING TRAVEL EVEN MORE TREACHEROUS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS AND BLOWING SNOW ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
