It’s official! Steamboat’s Indian summer is over and winter has arrived: Steamboat received its first snow!
I just got off the phone with Dr. Gannet Hallar, director of the Storm Peak Laboratory sitting at 10,500 feet on top of the Steamboat Ski Area. She said the snow is sticking to the ground.
The ski area reports a “trace” at mid-mountain (about 8,500 feet).
And the winner of the Moving Mountains “First Snowfall Pool” is… Well the jury is still out. Heather, who guessed October 7th is the closest. However there is debate that we should be going by “Price if Right Rules” (who ever guesses the closest without going over). In which case, Donna is our winner who guessed October 10th.
Meanwhile we are looking up at a mountain with snow!
There are only 46 more days until the ski area opens! In the meantime, crews here will start making snow to give the mountain a solid base and help Mother Nature’s contribution take better hold for the season.
