New Year’s Resolution #1:
Ski more.
New Year’s Resolution #2:
Ski more in Steamboat.
It looks like Mother Nature has resolved to make 2010 a snowy one in Steamboat.
After our New Year’s Eve storm brought us a foot of Champagne Powder, we doubled that in the last two days at out mid-mountain snow stake. There was even more up at the summit with 32 inches in just five days!
What about you? Resolving away some of those vices? Drinking? Smoking? Losing weight? Exercising more? Let us help you!
Drink less, but don’t go cold turkey: Drink champagne powder! We have taste-tested it the last few days and can tell you 2010 is looking like a vintage year for Steamboat champagne! However, this is one vintage you really should try yourself.
Smoking: Ever heard of cold smoke? It’s a term some use to describe the super light snow clouds you inhale as you ski through our powder on cold days. Again, smoke it for yourself, and inhale. We did.
Lose weight? Exercise more? Duh, skiing is exercise and burns billions of calories (give or take a few). Check both off and ski prime conditions!
Here are the stats so far for 2010:

Sun is breaking today, but more snow is on the way! Photo taken 1/4/10
Two feet in 5 days at mid-mountain
32″ in 5 days at the summit
109″ total this season
2756 of 2965 acres (93%) of trails and glades are open
16 of 18 lifts are open
157 of 165 trails are open
As for the weather on the way, a Winter Weather Advisory was just issued in our area.
This is the weather discussion for Steamboat issued by the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, Colorado:
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY WILL GO OUT THIS AFTN FOR ELKHEADS…PARK MTNS…FLATTOPS FOR 6 TO 10 INCHES OF SNOW STARTING TOMORROW NIGHT THRU WED NIGHT. STEAMBOAT SPRINGS AREA WILL SEE SOME SNOW BUT KEPT AMOUNTS BELOW ADVISORY CRITERIA…4 TO 7 INCHES.
January is traditionally the snowiest month of the year, and we have had a great start! Come see how this new snow is looking on your favorite runs!
Cheers from Steamboat! And good luck with your resolutions!
