Private Shuttle (Included with Full-Service Catered Package)

Our Suburbans are fully set up for winter driving

From your arrival in Steamboat Springs in winter we will take care of your local transport needs if you are booking a Full-Service Catered Package. If you fly into Hayden (HDN) we will pick you up and bring you to your chalet. Our 4WD Chevy Suburbans are fully equipped with studded snow tires and our drivers have all attended the Bridgestone Winter Driving School.

If you plan to ski we will drop you right at the lifts and pick you up at the end of the day. This means that you do not have to rent a car or drive daily in the snowy conditions. In the evening we'll be happy to show you the nightlife Steamboat is known for.

One additional benefit that was highlighted to us by past guests was that our shuttle service offers a greater level of flexibilty to a group wishing to persue several different activities. It eliminated many logistical questions regarding scheduling and who could drive that could be problematic when sharing a rental vehicle.

Rental Vehicles

If you do decide to rent a car you will need 4WD. Access roads are generally well maintained, however, to be really safe 4WD or AWD is the only way (you may encounter hazardous driving conditions!) Hertz and several others offer the intermediate size AWD Subaru Outback and Legacy at good rates. Otherwise a wide range of 4WD Sport Utility Vehicles is available from all the major rental companies. For rental vehicles snow chains are a wise precaution as most vehicles are equipped with "all-season" tires which are not suited to driving on ice or packed snow.

Ski Shuttle Service / Steamboat Free Bus

Some of our chalets offer a ski shuttle service that brings you to the bottom of Thunderhead Lift or to the Transit Center located at the bottom of the ski mountain. If you want to go to Central Plaza (City Market, Walmart, Block Buster etc.) you can take the public Steamboat Free Bus (red line and blue line) from the Transit Center.

Alpine Taxi

Please note that Steamboat Springs doesn't offer a taxi service comparable to any big cities like Denver, New York or Chicago...

If you decide to go out and use the services of Alpine Taxi you have to make reservations ahead of time! On busy evenings (Fridays and Saturdays and especially around busy holiday periods) you have to consider with longer waiting times for a drive home from the restaurant or pub.
