Raul Leon

Raul has become an integral team member at Moving Mountains and he has been in Steamboat long enough to almost be considered a local. Year-round he is an important member of our Reservations Team working with our many Latin American guests and in Winter he trains and directs the Catered Chalet Team. His knowledge and enthusiasm for Steamboat is evident as soon as you meet him. 

Raul also made his name with Comunidad Integrada, a non-profit organization based in Steamboat that works to build and promote an integrated community. His role included publishing a bi-weekly column in a local newspaper. He was also written up in the Steamboat Magazine for his contributions. 

Raul hails from Mexico City but has also lived in Ecuador, Panama, Dominican Republic, and Kyrgyzstan before making a home in Steamboat. He likes to snowboard and gets out on the mountain whenever the chance presents itself. Raul's many other talents include an amazing ability to smile at all times - which always goes down well with people on vacation!

Jenna Wallis

Jenna Wallis

Jenna hails from the 'land down under' as most people would know it, born and raised on the NSW Central Coast of Australia. After high school she obtained a hospitality operations traineeship, gaining valuable experience and knowledge in all aspects of the hospitality industry. 

Jenna first discovered Steamboat in winter 2011/2012 on her first overseas holiday to America. She fell in love with the Colorado Rockies, champagne powder and the small country ski town 'Steamboat Springs'. She has since travelled across America and Canada but her favorite remains the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. 

Jenna leads a healthy, active lifestyle with a passion for sport and the outdoors. She enjoys skiing, touch football, and even watching the NFL. She loves being with people and learning about their lifestyles. You'll find her always on the go, smiling, with an enthusiastic mind and good sense of humor.

Rodger Bowren

Rodger Bowren

Rodger grew up on a farm in the Drakensburg, South Africa, this is where he discovered his love and passion for nature. He enjoys playing sports such as Rugby, Cricket and tennis, and his hobbies include birding, photography and fly fishing. After completing his qualifications as a Safari Field Guide, he spent the past eight years working in Kenya, Mozambique, and South Africa: the Eastern Cape and Kalahari. His career has involved Game drives, guided walking safaris through Africa's wilderness, and hosting guests throughout their stay in Africa.

Rodger's enthusiasm for meeting and interacting with people is obvious from the moment you meet him. Joining the Moving Mountains team, Rodger is enjoying sharing his experience and knowledge with those who share an interest in the outdoors, as well as learning to snowboard and join the team for dog sledding.

Tamsyn Smith

Tamsyn Smith

Tamsyn grew up on a fruit farm outside Cape Town, South Africa. First going to university in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Tamsyn completed her Masters in Interior Architecture in Florence, Italy. Living in Italy fuelled her love for food, which led to completing a couple of courses in cooking, and years of experimenting with flavours and dishes. Tamsyn enjoys everything design related, and is extremely passionate about her career as an interior architect. Tamsyn spent a year travelling Africa and designing luxury Safari camps, something she hopes to continue in the future.

Living in Steamboat for the season, Tamsyn is excited to explore her interest in food, hopes to improve her skiing, and is excited to meet new people.

Caroline Wood

Caroline Wood

Caroline was born and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa where she has recently completed her Honours degree in Geology, specialising in Geophysics.  Since a young girl, she has enjoyed taking part in many sports including hockey, dancing, tennis and athletics.  Caroline enjoys helping others and has channelled this into part-time work as a tutor and hockey coach. Family are a big part of Caroline’s life and some of her fondest memories include their travels together, both overseas and within South Africa.  In her free time, Caroline enjoys the outdoors, going hiking and to the beach. 

She enjoys meeting new people and sharing experiences.  It goes without saying that Caroline is loving her opportunity to work in Steamboat Springs and being a part of the Moving Mountains team. Learning to ski is just an added bonus!

Mike Johnson

Guests that experienced Mike’s cooking back in 2005 will be excited to hear that after a 10 year sojourn working in many other aspects of the food and restaurant business he is returning to lead our catering team this winter.

Raised in a professional kitchen in the Chicagoland area, and as a fourth generation chef a passion for great food runs in his blood. Chef Mike JohnsonMike graduated from The Culinary School at Kendall College in Chicago and sought a career in kitchens and resorts that fed his passion for both food and fly fishing. This took him on a journey that began with four seasons as both Sous Chef and Head Chef at Rio Blanco Ranch on the White River in Colorado. This was his first wilderness ranch experience and he was hooked. Other Ranch experiences include The UXU Ranch in Wapiti Wyoming, King Mountain Ranch near Granby Colorado and the Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite California.

Always needing work in the winter season, Chef Michael has worked many managerial roles and station chef positions alike in many kitchens through his 30 years in the industry. Notable kitchens: Trio American Bistro, Jackson Wyoming. Lovell’s of Lake Forest, Lake Forest Illinois. Oceanique, Evanston Illinois. The Ritz-Carlton, Naples Florida. The Sheridan North Shore. Northbrook Illinois. This list also included his time as a member of our catered chalet crew in 2005 and 2006 where he established his reputation as one of our most gifted chefs. With his classical French training and his love with the Rocky Mountains, Chef Michael brings a Farm to Table approach to his twist on Mediterranean techniques spun into local Rocky Mountain fare.

Wade Posthumus

Wade Posthumus

Wade grew up in the year-round sunshine of the east coast of South Africa, in the small surf town of Durban. Growing up between the beach and the soccer field, Wade quickly became accustomed to life outdoors fishing and surfing. After finishing school, Wade spent four years travelling and working around the U.K, Asia, and Australia. He returned to South Africa to begin his studies in Creative Writing and the arts. After finishing studies in copywriting and beginning his first job writing, he decided that life was better spent out under the open skies, gaining more life experience to add to his writing. 

This is Wade's first year with us at Steamboat and he is enjoying experiencing life in the States, and the wonders of the mountain. Wade enjoys meeting new people and making life-long friends. He plans to return to South Africa to pursue his other passion of opening a Coffee Co-Operative. 

Karl van Zyl

Karl van Zyl

Karl was born and raised in the beautiful city of Cape Town, South Africa and has recently completed his Civil Engineering degree at Stellenbosch University, situated deep in the winelands of the Western Cape. Like many South Africans Karl loves the outdoors but has a special love for the ocean where he spends a lot of his free time surfing with friends. He loves team sports and played field hockey and cricket at school and then played ice hockey at University.

Before coming to Steamboat Karl had never done any snow sports but has been applying his surfing skills to the snowboard. Karl loves meeting and interacting with new people from different parts of the world. He is also a team player with an enthusiastic and positive attitude and is a strong member of the Moving Mountains team in Steamboat.
